The recent Dubbaka by elections results and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election results worked as an eye opener for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)

With the aim of ruling in Telangana in 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP put effort and emerged out as strong opposition to the TRS, the ruling Government in Telangana.

The recent Dubbaka by election won by the BJP candidate and close fight in the GHMC elections proved the current impact of the BJP in the State.

In the GHMC elections, out of 150 seats, the TRS won 56 and emerged as the single largest party and the BJP gave a close fight and secured 48 seats.

Highlighting the percentage, the BJP secured 35.56 % of total votes, only 0.25 % behind the TRS.

Worried about the status of the BJP in Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, is charting out plans for damage control before the 2023 Assembly polls.

The reason behind this sudden fall of the TRS and rise of the BJP is said to be pending promises of the TRS, several scandals and controversies over the administration, suicides of intermediate students, Haritha Haram implementation, Konda Pochamma displacements and the proposed Land Regularization scheme.

Besides these, the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 situation in the State is also a major point.

The TRS administration’s COVID-19 response was not only criticised by the opposition parties, but the Telangana High Court (HC.) The criticism was mainly for the low number of testing for COVID-19 in the State. The Telangana HC directed the State Health Department to conduct 60,000 plus tests per day. However, data shows the State Government is conducting tests in between 30,000 to 50,000.

Further criticism about the party’s functioning includes allegations of favoritism and dynasty politics.

However, the transparent response of the public and hold of the BJP was visible after the recent election results.

The BJP left no stone unturned for their GHMC poll campaign and managed to secure a good number of seats.

The difference between the TRS and the BJP in the GHMC elections was in a single digit, 7 seats only.

With a strong comeback after the elections, the TRS planned a tour with the inauguration of new party offices across the state.

The Party would inaugurate Siddipet office on the 10th of December.

In addition, the release of funds for the Rythu Bandhu scheme would resume from the 27th of December.

Additionally, the TRS cadre has firmly opposed the farm bills and supported farmers protesting against the BJP.

These measures taken by the TRS are said to be a result of self realisation to the fact that the BJP is going to be a real threat in the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.

The Telangana Assembly Legislative elections are due in November 2023.

However, both the BJP and the TRS are trying to have a hold in the State to gain power in 2023.
