E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Telangana, on the 23rd of July, rejected a few clauses of the newly introduced Municipal Bill 2019.

K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, held a two day Assembly session and a Legislative Council meeting on the 18th and 19th of July and introduced the amended Municipal Bill 2019.

After the approval of the Cabinet Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) the Bill was sent to the State Governor for approval. However, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan objected to certain aspects of the Municipal Bill and asked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to change them.

According to sources, the State Governor opposed the rule which states the State Government will have complete power over the Municipal elections.

Apart from that, Narasimhan was also not in favour of the clause which gives powers to the collectors to take action against elected representatives immediately.

The Telangana Government agreed to the amendments suggested by the Governor.

The TRS Government immediately issued an ordinance and accepted all the suggestions and is going to introduce the bill with the suggested changes.
