He joined the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is likely to contest as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the upcoming Huzurabad by elections.

On this, KTR said, the State Government said he tried till the last moments to see that the former minister Etela Rajender remained in the TRS party. Reacting to the party taking action against Etela by a written complaint by a person, TRS working President said the government took the decision while taking many aspects into account. ‘If Etela Rajender has differences with CM KCR, how could he continue in the cabinet for more than five years,’ KTR pointed out.
