Naini Rajender Reddy, the President of the Indian National Congress Committee in Warangal district, on the 22nd of July, criticised the new Municipal Act, introduced on the 19th of July.

Rajender Reddy said, “The new Act which has several shortcomings was aimed at suppressing the voice of Opposition.”

Reddy alleged K. Chandrashekar Rao (KC,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, of playing with the Constitution by introducing the new Municipal Act.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) introduced the new Municipal Act during the special Assembly session, which took place on the 18th and 19th of July.

Naini Rajender Reddy opposed the Act, as it indicates KCR’s ideology against the opposition parties. He said, “The Congress is opposing the new Act that allows the District Collectors to remove corporators. The Act also allows Collectors to cancel the resolutions passed by the Municipal Councils which is undemocratic.”

He also questioned the Municipal elections, which are scheduled to be held in the first week of August, in a short span of 35 days.

Rajender also said the INC supporters and members will conduct a programme and will hoist the party flag at their residences and launch a campaign to expose the failures of the TRS Government.

In this campaign, the INC will also create awareness among the people of Telangana and tell them about the injustice of the Telangana Government to the Backward Classes (BCs) regarding reservations.

On the occasion, Rajendra also asked the State Government to give 33 % quota to the BCs, based on population. He said, “The Congress is committed to give 50 per cent seats to BCs in the upcoming municipal elections,” He said. He accused the TRS Government of issuing proceedings of Asara pensions with a view of taking advantage in the municipal elections. Further, the DCC president urged the people to notice the misdeeds of the TRS government..”

The State will conduct the Municipal elections in the first week of August.

However, an official announcement regarding the dates of the Municipal elections is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
