Y.S. Sharmila, the daughter of the late Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy and the sister of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, extended support to Telangana.

Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, on the 29th of June, took to Twitter and assured her support to Telangana in the ongoing water dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Y.S. Sharmila said, no compromise would be made even on a drop of Telangana’s water in the ongoing water dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. She further added, in order to support Telangana, she would fight with anyone if needed. With this it could be said that she is referring to her brother, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the one under whom, the Rayalaseema Irrigation Project is being constructed.

(Let’s not give up even a single drop of water related to Telangana. We are ready to fight with anyone if necessary.)

It is to be noted, the two Telugu states are having dispute over water issue and the Rayalaseema Irrigation Project, which is being constructed in A.P., under the leadership of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Under the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, the construction of the project is underway. However, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government and other political parties in Telangana criticised the work and asked the Andhra Pradesh Government to halt the work.

In regard to this, recently on the 24th of June, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) wrote to the Andhra Pradesh Government, urging it to stop the works on the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project. The KRBM cited the recent orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to stop the ongoing work. Recently, the NGT and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government objected to the work on the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project. The major reason to object to the work is the violation in work as per the guidelines/directions given by the NGT. The KRMB shared the pictures of the ongoing work and said, the A.P., Board and authorities overlooked the directions of the NGT and continued the work even after the stay order of the Green Tribunal. In addition, if the irrigation work continues, a few villages and districts of Telangana would witness a drought like situation. The project would affect the water conditions in Telangana

Ms. Y.S. Sharmila recently visited a few regions of Telangana and met with the people. Her action is said to be her strategy to establish herself with her Party in Telangana against the TRS Government.

Recently, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila launched her Party’s name and is scheduled to announce her Party officially on the 8th of July. Considering her effort, planning, strategising, policies and commitments towards the citizens of Telangana, she is expected to contest the 2023 Assembly elections. However, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.
