The Samajwadi Party (SP) has criticised Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his recent remarks on Lord Ram and Lord Shiva.
SP spokesperson Ashutosh Verma said Reddy should focus on governance and use his position to work for poor, backward, Dalit, minority and oppressed communities.
Verma said matters related to God and religious beliefs should be left to saints, seers and spiritual leaders.
The criticism came after Reddy questioned the BJP’s repeated use of “Jai Shri Ram” and asked why BJP leaders do not also chant “Har Har Mahadev.”
Reddy said, “We are Dravidians”, while describing people in North India as Aryans. He also said people in the South are devotees of Shiva, while people in the North are devotees of Ram.
Reddy further described Lord Shiva as the “God of the poor” and Lord Ram as the “God of the rich.”
His comments drew criticism from the BJP, while the Congress defended Reddy and accused the BJP of using religious issues for political gain.
