The Telangana Assembly session approved an important bill related to pension of the legislators.
T. Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana, on the 25th of March, proposed the Telangana Payment of Salaries and Pension and Removal of Disqualifications (Amendment) Bill. The bill would enhance the pensions of the former legislators from the minimum pension of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 with an upper ceiling of Rs.75,000.
In addition to this, Mr. Harish Rao also announced an increase in expenditure towards the medical treatment of legislators, former legislators and their spouses for their ailments. The decision was taken by the K. Chandrasekar Rao led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government ahead of the session.
K. Chandrasekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, took the decision after considering the struggles of several former Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and the Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs.) Highlighting the same during today’s session, Mr. Harish Rao said, many former MLAs and MLCs were having issues in paying the hospital bills whenever they undergo treatment.
Though there is a provision for sanctioning more funds than the current limit, the process of approvals is a major issue for the former legislators, especially during emergencies. To remove such issues, the State Government increased the pension amount to the retired MLAs and MLCs.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Assembly Budget session which started on the 15th of March, is set to conclude on the 26th of March.
