In order to spread awareness for breast cancer, the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF,) a Telangana based foundation started a campaign.
On the 1st of October, which marks the beginning of ‘International Breast Cancer Awareness month, UBF made all the necessary arrangements to illuminate historical monuments and major landmarks of Hyderabad in pink on Friday.
The Telangana based foundation launched the awareness campaign, 13 years ago and has been illuminating landmarks including Charminar, Prasads Imax, the Buddha statue at Tank Bund, Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge and KIMS Hospital into pink colour, marking breast cancer awareness in the State.
Illumination in pink is a way to attract the attention and curiosity of people and raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer amongst people, especially women.
Dr. P. Raghu Ram, the founder of UBF said, “Hyderabad is the only city in Asia to have so many prominent buildings and historic monuments turn pink in one night in support of breast cancer awareness.”
To win the war on breast cancer, women of all ages must report to their doctor if there are any new changes noticed in the breast.
The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October. The campaigns help to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
