On the 24th of February, Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, also gau rakshaks (cow protectors) staged a protest against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government.

The protest was in the wake of recently held clashes between cattle transporters and gau rakshaks.

The protest started at Balapur cross road, where over 100 BJP members chanted slogans of ”Jai Shree Ram” and ”Jai Gau Mata.” They condemned the attack on gau rakshaks during the clash, held on the 21st of February, Monday, in Karmanghat, Telangana.

The clash broke out on Monday night, which turned violent after stone-pelting and attacks between right-wing groups and cattle transporters. According to sources, a few BJP activists (also Gau Rakshaks) allegedly stopped illegal cow transportation, following which they were attacked. To save themselves, they took shelter at a temple, but the people of another community entered the temple and allegedly attacked them.

The Telangana Police rushed to the spot to control the situation. In addition, a sub-inspector was seriously injured and many police vehicles were damaged during the clash. The sub-inspector, Madhava Reddy, who got injured during the clash is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be critical.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered against seven people under Sections 307, 295A, 153A, 427, 147, 148 read with 149 of the IPC, against the alleged attackers. The arrested were booked for rioting and illegal transportation of cattle which created communal tensions in Karmanghat.
