The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders protested against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government over a hike in power tariff in Telangana, burning pockets of the common man. Furthermore, when called for a protest and seizure of Vidyut Soudha, the Hyderabad Police house arrested senior leaders of the Congress including President Mr. A. Revanth Reddy, Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka, Mr. Mallu Ravi and others.
The protestors then stated that the hike in power charges is not bearable and demanded the withdrawal of the tariff hike. Thousands of the TPCC workers took out a rally from Necklace Road on the banks of Hussain Sagar to the Vidyut Soudha to stage a sit in dharna in protest against the power tariff hike.
When stopped by the police, the TPCC raised objection and said, why they are being stopped when a similar sit in protest was permitted to the TRS over the paddy procurement issue. After the arguments, the Police permitted the TPCC chief and some other senior leaders including Mr. D. Sridhar Babu and campaign committee chairman Ms. Madhu Yashki and submitted a memorandum to Telangana Power Transmission Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Mr. D. Prabhakar Rao, demanding that the power tariff hike be withdrawn.
Recently, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government increased the power tariff rate in the Telugu State, which is being protested by the opposition.
