On the 12th of September, Monday, the Telangana Weather Department issued an alert in the districts on the banks of the Godavari River.  The flood warning was in regard to the overflow of the Godavari water amid rains in the Telugu State.

Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, instructed Mr. Somesh Kumar, the State Chief Secretary to alert the Collectors and Superintendents of Police of all the districts located near the Godavari catchment area including Kothagudem and Mulugu.  Due to the heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana over the past few days, the water level is steadily increasing and crossing 9 lakh cusecs.  Aiming to control the flood like situation, the concerned authorities have opened 35 crest gates of Sri Ram Sagar to release water downstream.  The flood discharge at Sri Ram Sagar is 2.06 lakh cusecs with as many as 85 gates of Yellampalli reservoir having been opened to let out 6.7 lakh cusecs.

The current flood like situation had disturbed the normal living of locals, causing bad traffic, electricity and other issues.
