The Telangana Government on the 13th of May, issued an order regarding the sale of toddy in the districts of Telangana.
According to the released statement, the toddy tappers can also sell the beverage, maintaining social distance and hygiene.
However, the granted permission would not be applied in the containment zones for the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
V. Srinivas Goud, the Minister for Prohibition and Excise in Telangana, said shops in the containment zones would remain closed until further notice. Meanwhile, other shops are allowed to function.
The decision to allow toddy tappers to function in the State came after a high level meeting. The K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government said approximately 40 lakh people would be benefited with this decision on toddy tapping in the State. In regard to this, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi took necessary decisions allowing toddy shops to open in Telangana.
The Government also planned to plant around 100 saplings during the monsoon under the Haritha Haram scheme and the sale of non alcoholic toddy-based drinks at stalls near Tank Bund, Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, till the 14th of May, Telangana reported 1,367 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 34 fatalities.
