Telangana Government Announces Stree Nidhi Suraksha Initiative For Women

The Telangana Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on the 31st of January, launched another initiative in Telangana.

The new initiative named, ‘Stree Nidhi’ was announced for the safety of women in the State. Errabelli Dayakar Rao, the Panchayat Raj Minister of Telangana, announced the new scheme by the Telangana Government.

The announcement was made while addressing women beneficiaries of Stree Nidhi at Thorrur and Peddavangara mandals in Mahabubabad district.

Under the scheme, the women have to pay a one time fee of Rs. 690. With this they would become a member of the scheme and would be eligible for loans.

The loans would be given to women and could be repaid in instalments over a period of three years.

The minister said that if any person admitted under this scheme dies, her family would get Rs. 1 lakh on her behalf.

During the launch event of the scheme, Mr. Dayakar Rao said, “Development of your family, society and country is in your hands. You must ensure that loans you take support your growth. During 2020–2021, the State Government provided loans totaling to Rs. 2,400 crores under the Stree Nidhi. So far, Rs. 1,140 crores have been given to 2.74 lakh women in the state.”

In regard to the initiative, the Minister handed over a total loan of Rs. 19.9 crores to 1500 members of Mahabubabad district.

Of the total given loan amount, Rs. 14.02 crores was used for the purchase of dairy cattle, Rs. 75 lakh for electric vehicles and the rest for other purposes.

Mr. Rao said, “Beneficiaries should buy better breeds of cattle that can produce more milk. For this purpose, the loan amount can be increased from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000.”

The Stree Nidhi initiative was launched to benefit the poor women of the State.
