The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government extended the liquor licenses till the 30th of November.
Initially, the 2019-2021 license period for liquor shops was till the 30th of October. However, in the wake of the new Excise Policy, which would come into effect from the 1st of November, the State Government extended the license period.
In addition, for the first time, the Telangana Government led by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, announced a reservation of liquor shop license for the communities of the Gouds, the Scheduled Castes (SCs,) the Scheduled Tribes (STs) and the Backward Classes (BCs.) As per the Government Order (GO) Number 87, 15 % of the reservations would be for Gouds, 10% for SCs and 5 % for STs.
Mr. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, issued the GO, which is in effect immediately. The reservation on the liquor license would be until 2023.
