The Telangana Government, on the 2nd of January, took a step towards the recent announcement of 2020 being the Year of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Telangana.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology (IT,) Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, on the 2nd of January, signed eight Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) with various companies, including Intel, Nvidia and Adobe.

Mr. Rao said, “In line with our vision and our approach, AI will be our focus for the coming year and beyond. While we are calling 2020 as the ‘Year of AI,’ our Government will set in motion a set of initiatives, which will potentially make the next decade as Telangana’s decade of AI. Telangana is ready to capture the global AI opportunity.”

During the MoUs signing event, Nivruti Rai, the Vice President of the Data Centre Group and the Country Head of Intel, said AI is going to add nearly 13 trillion dollars to the world economy.

In another major achievement, Nvidia, in collaboration with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) would set up a High Performance AI Computing (HPAIC) Centre in Telangana.

They would also host AI training sessions to support women & minority groups and organise many other events such as hackathons.

Apart from Intel and Nvidia, IIT Kharagpur also signed an MoU to set up a centre of excellence in AI and research and a development park.

Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary of IT and Industries, praised the initiative of the TRS Government.

KTR recently declared 2020 as the Year of AI to boost the State’s potential in the field of artificial intelligence.
