Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, is all set to inaugurate the second phase of the Kanti Velugu Scheme in the Telugu State of Telangana.

It is to be noted, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government announced to conduct the second phase of the State Government’s Kanti Velugu Programme, in January.

Implemented once again in the Telugu State of Telangana, the Kanti Velugu Scheme provides free treatment and checkups for those suffering from any eye related issues.  As a part of the scheme, the government would distribute medicines along with spectacles to those suffering from vision related problems.    This is the second time the KCR led Government has issued the scheme.  It was first introduced in 2018 by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, in Malkapur and Medak districts.  However, the scheme was dropped initially after 5 months with an investment of Rs. 106 crores.  Now, once again, the TRS Government now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced the implementation of the Kanti Velugu programme, starting from the 18th of January 2023.

According to sources, the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the State have been directed to make elaborate arrangements for the programme.  The Municipal Commissioners have been also directed to provide suitable government accommodation in the ULBs for conducting the Kanti Velugu camps at the ward level.

The camp locations are to be finalized in consultation with the respective District Medical Health Officers (DMHOs) and Urban Primary Health Centre Medical Officers concerned.

ULB staff members are to be deployed at the venues for proper coordination in arrangements and conduct of the camps.

Under the second phase of the Kanti Velugu scheme, it would cover 1.5 crore individuals and distribute a staggering 55 lakh spectacles to the needy patients.  Out of the 55 lakh eyeglasses,  a total of 30 lakh would be reading glasses while the rest of the 25 lakh would be prescription glasses, which will be meant specifically to correct vision problems and for full time use.

Furthermore, this unique eye care initiative would be held over a period of 100 days with an estimated cost of nearly Rs. 200 crores, starting from January 18th, 2023.  For this purpose, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is expected to form teams of 1,500 doctors and medical staff.

In addition, the Telangana Government has already released Rs. 200 crores for the smooth conduct of the second phase of the Kanti Velugu initiative, said Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Health Minister of Telangana.
