Telangana set a new record of planting 1 million saplings in a day under the Green India Challenge programme.

On the 4th of July, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government launched the initiative with the help of 30,000 State ministers, Party workers and other leaders.

In an hour, approximately 3.5 lakh saplings were planted at Durganagar Haritha Vanam and Adilabad. The programme was planned and successfully executed by dividing the entire region into ten sectors. As part of the record attempt, five lakh saplings were planted under Yadadri Miyawaki model in the degenerated forest area spreading over 200 acres in Durganagar of Adilabad rural region.

In a span of 60 minutes, two lakh plants in Adilabad Rural Bela mandal, 1.80 lakh saplings in 45,000 houses in the urban region were planted.

The efforts of the volunteers, leaders and the State Government created a world record. Confirming the record, representatives of the Wonder Book of Records presented an appreciation certificate to the organisers after observing the plantations in the Durga Nagar region. According to sources, the proceedings of the programme have been recorded as per the norms and would be sent to the Guinness Book World Records.

The last such record of planting maximum saplings in one hour was created by Turkey in 2019. Turkey planted 3.03 lakh saplings in one hour, which has now been broken by Telangana (India) with the plantation of 3.05 lakh saplings in several regions of Telangana in an hour. Overall, the State planted 1 million saplings in 10 forest area sectors in Telangana.

The Green India Challenge was launched in 2016 to promote an expansive forest cover of degenerated land. The Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Santosh Kumar had launched the initiative, and has since roped in a lot of celebrities, politicians, and influential personalities to help further the cause.

The Green India Challenge founder and Rajya Sabha MP Joginipally Santosh Kumar participated in the programme as the Chief Guest and the Forest Minister A. Indra Karan Reddy witnessed the event.
