In the last 24 hours, Telangana reported 879 fresh cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection. The total cases stand at 9,553.
With the increasing number of cases, private hospitals treating the Novel Coronavirus patients complained of shortage of bed and hospital staff for patients.
On the 23rd of June, private hospitals urged asymptomatic and ones with mild symptoms COVID-19 patients to stay at home.
The Telangana Super Specialty Hospitals Association (TSSHA,) the umbrella body for 53 private hospitals, said unless someone has serious symptoms, treatment should be done at home with help from hospitals.
Dr. Bhaskar Rao, the President of the TSSHA, said, “It is the elderly and people who have comorbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension, cancer and other diseases, who are more vulnerable and need admission. There is a scarcity of beds. We may also face a shortage of manpower.”
Speaking about the fresh cases, out of the total of 879 cases, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits recorded 652 cases, followed by Medchal with 112 cases.
Remaining cases were reported from other districts of Telangana.
The increasing number of cases is a major concern for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government.
Since the 15th of June, the number of cases are rising. The reason could be rapid testing after private labs are also approved to conduct the Novel Coronavirus tests.
Recently, the Telangana Government approved a few private hospitals and laboratories to conduct COVID-19 tests and treat patients.
The result is people are taking tests in private labs increasing the total number of cases.
Since the 15th of June, Telangana recorded 3,268 new cases, which is 42% of the total cases.
With these updates, the total reached 9,553 positive cases. Out of the total, 5,109 are active cases, 4,592 recovered/discharged and 220 deceased till the 24th of June.
The Telangana Government is taking all the precautionary measure to control the spread of the virus.
Stay tuned for further updates.
