Telangana Requires 20 Lakh Doses To Roll Out New Vaccination Programme From 21st June

The free vaccination programme for people above 18 years old is set to begin from the 21st of June. Under the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination programme, the Central Government would provide vaccines against the Wuhan virus to respective states.

However, this time, the COVID-19 vaccine doses would be given as per the data submitted by the state governments. In Telangana, the State Government is worried about the number of doses they would receive, as so far they have no information regarding this.

According to sources, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would require 20 lakh doses to roll out the vaccination programme for individuals above 18 years old from the 21st of June. As of now, the State is purchasing 7 to 8 lakh doses of vaccine per month in addition to 5 to 6 lakh doses supplied by the Central Government to meet the requirements and continue the vaccination programme smoothly. In addition, the Telangana Government said, they have nearly 8.5 lakh vaccine which would be enough to meet the requirement till the 18th of June. Also, to cover the population of 18 years old, Telangana Government would need 3.5 crore vaccine doses.

The free vaccination programme, which is set to begin from the 21st of June, across India for all above 18 years is initiated by the Central Government. Similar to the previous roll out of the vaccination programme, the Central Government would provide vaccines to state governments for people.

However, this time, the Centre would distribute vaccines based on the details submitted by the state governments. Depending on the wastage, usage and population, doses would be supplied.

In regard to this, the Central Government said, 1.05 crore doses were available with the States (all States put together) and that another 47,43,580 doses would be distributed among all States.
