Telangana’s Cities Set for a Major Development Push

Better roads, reliable water supply and proper drainage are important for growing cities. Telangana has several urban projects planned to improve public facilities and make city life easier.

In a major step, the Union Government has approved five urban infrastructure projects worth ₹3,892.38 crore in Telangana under the Urban Challenge Fund. The Centre will provide ₹873.49 crore in financial support.

The largest project is the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project for Hyderabad. Its second and third phases will cost ₹1,992 crore and include around 120 km of pipelines, two water treatment plants and new storage facilities. The project aims to serve around 1.74 crore people by 2035.

Greater Warangal will receive a ₹1,465-crore drainage project to address 24 flood-prone locations. Other approvals cover the restoration of Warangal Fort’s moat, development of Hanamkonda’s business district and heritage tourism facilities in Alampur.

These projects cover water supply, drainage, public spaces and tourism. They aim to improve infrastructure across several parts of the state.
