On the 2nd of December, Koneru Konappa, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Komaram Bheem Asifabad, handed cheque of Rs. 5 lakhs to the family of the tribal girl who was killed by a tiger.
On the 29th of November, a tribal girl was killed by a tiger. The 16 year old tribal girl, identified as Pasula Nirmala, was killed when she was at a cotton field in Mannewada hamlet near Kondapalli Village.
The incident came to light after her brothers informed people. Two brothers of the girl heard her cries for help and tried to rescue her by throwing sickles at the tiger.
However, they could not save her as the tiger dragged the girl’s body 50 meters into the Bejjur forest range and vanished. Later, her half eaten body was recovered.
Responding to the incident, the Asifbad MLA said the State Government would provide an ex gratia to the girl’s family.
He asserted that he would provide another Rs.5 lakh from the government, besides the financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh from the forest department.
The family of the girl was given Rs. 10 lakhs in total as a compensation.
In addition, the Telangana Government also assured to provide a job to one of the family members in the State Forest Department.
