On Wednesday, the Telangana Archeology Department unearthed the world’s largest capstone at the Narmet Village of Nangunuru mandal in Sidddipet. The archaeologists said that they stumbled across this as they were excavating the Menhir.

According to reports by the officials, this site was apparently an ancient burial site and that it was a stunning discovery. D. Ramulu Naik, assistant director of the archaeology department said that this capstone is apparently the largest in the world. Archaeology department consultant S.S. Rangacharyulu, Dr. K. Padmanabha, the assistant director of museums co-ordinated with the archaeological department to lift the massive stone as it was a mission that required great precision.

The capstone that weighed around 40 tons was lifted by a crane. The archaeological department has announced that they will perform DNA tests on the many artifacts that were found near the site. This is in hopes to learn the lineage of the pre-historic age. It will also help in understanding the lifestyle, food habits and how the race came to be extinct.
