Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, the Founder and President of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) launched a padyatra against the misrule of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.
Named as ‘Praja Prasthanam’ the padyatra was launched on the 20th of October, by Ms. Y.S. Vijayamma, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila’s mother. She flagged off the padyatra from Chevella region of Rangareddy district in Telangana. The reason to launch the padyatra specifically from Chevella is because, the late Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy also launched his famous padyatra with the same title in 2003. Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said, “I am following in the footsteps of my father YSR who sowed the seeds of welfare with his padyatra.”
The major reason behind the padyatra is to raise voice against the TRS Government and Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana. During the launch event, the YSRTP President said, she is following in the footsteps of her late father Mr. Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy and would bring back the glorious days of Telangana, which is being destroyed under the TRS rule. She said, with her dedication and work for the people, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila and her YSRTP would bring back welfare rule in Telangana.
During the public meeting, the YSRTP President slammed the President of the TRS Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Sharmila said the CM is ignoring the welfare of the people to focus on his family rule. Speaking about the goal of her party, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said removing KCR from power is the primary goal of the YSRTP. It could be said, the launch of the YSRTP Party is mainly to dethrone the ruling TRS and target K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.
During the meeting, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila said, “Today, I am taking the first step towards heralding a welfare state in Telangana and dethroning the dynastic rule of the TRS. I shall touch every village and meet every villager during my journey.” She further added, “Hundreds of educated unemployed youth have died by suicide due to lack of employment opportunities and many others turned into daily wage workers. Though official records say there are 1.90 lakh vacancies in the state, the TRS Government has not issued a single job notification so far.”
Sharmila also accused the TRS Government of neglecting the weaker sections and said, “After TRS came to power in 2014, KCR announced that he would make a Dalit as the first chief minister of Telangana. He also promised three acres of land to each Dalit family. But he did not fulfil even a single promise. On the contrary, atrocities on Dalits have gone up during the TRS regime. He also has not done anything for OBCs (other backward classes.)”
Meanwhile, during this Praja Prasthanam padayatra, Ms. Y.S.Sharmila would walk 4,000 km covering 16 of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies and all Assembly constituencies. However, she would not cover Assembly constituencies under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
Everyday, she would begin her padyatra at 8:30 A.M., and would take a break between 12:30 P.M., to 3:00 P.M. She would conclude her padyatra at 6:00 P.M., everyday and would cover an average of 13-15 km. The launch Praja Prasthanam padayatra is expected to continue for a span of 14 months, which is likely to be till December 2022.
