Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, the Chief of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP,) wrote a letter about massive financial irregularities and corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) in Telangana.
In the letter addressed to the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila strongly condemned the financial irregularities. She demanded action against those involved in the corruption and irregularities of the KLIP, constructed by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led Telangana Government. She also mentioned the project which started in 2019 with an estimated cost of Rs. 40,000 crores, has now increased to Rs. 1.20 lakhs crores, without any proper evidence of the expansion of acres of land and project development.
Being constructed at the Godavari River in Kaleshwaram, Telangana, the project is being jointly funded by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government and BJP led Central Government. After the construction, the KLIP would resolve water scarcity problems and would provide water for irrigation and drinking purposes in many districts of Telangana.
However, taking a dig at the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, said, “On the occasion of the Prime Minister’s visit to Telangana, YSR Telangana Party has written to him seeking an immediate investigation into what is supposed to be the biggest irrigation-related scam in the country, the Kaleshwaram Project scam. I have put forward a strong plea, requesting him to act on this issue in the larger interest of the farmers of Telangana.” Ms. Y.S. Sharmila further said, “We have lodged complaints with CBI and CAG, supported by strong evidence and documents that establish corruption. Even, the central ministers, whenever they visit Telangana, point to the corruption in the project but have never initiated any action, to date, which is nothing but lip service. It is my request to the Prime Minister to not just stop with allegations, like his cabinet colleagues, but act in the interest of the Telangana population, and the farmers in particular.”
Furthermore, the YSRTP also called for a poster campaign to bring the matter into the notice of Mr. Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Ramagundam, for the launch of projects. During PM Modi’s Telangana Visit, the YSRTP leaders would conduct this campaign, for which they have put up posters, highlighting corruption allegations in the KLIP. They would also stage a protest, seeking Central Government’s intervention and ordering an investigation into the corruption in the Kaleshwaram Project.
