The Amaravati farmers would reach Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, entering the 37th day of the Maha Padyatra, against the three capitals proposal of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)  The padayatra started from Paper Mill, Rajahmundry in the morning of the 18th of October, Tuesday and would end at Morampudi in the evening.  Farmers of Amaravati would walk a total of 8 kilometres today, the 18th of October.

Notably, the Amaravati Maha Padayatra was organised by the Amaravati Conservation Committee and the Capital United Action Committee, which has been joined by the people of Amaravati.   The padayatra started as a move against the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, which proposed three state capitals, instead of Amaravati.  The Amaravati capital issue is a problem for the farmers of 28 villages who sacrificed their lands.  In 2014, after Andhra Pradesh and Telangana emerged as two independent states, villagers and farmers of Amaravati gave up their lands to the then ruling Government, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) for the development of Amaravati as the Andhra Pradesh Capital.

However, in December 2019, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the government now in power, proposed three capitals (Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool) for Andhra Pradesh.

Furthermore, to reciprocate the Amaravati farmer’s Maha Padayatra against the three capitals, the YSRCP leaders in the Rajahmundry region have also organised a public meeting.  The public meeting has been organised in the support of decentralization, announcing three capitals, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and Amaravati.
