In Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam, a three storeyed building collapsed, resulting in detah of three people and left five injured. 

On the 23rd of March, Thursday, a three storeyed building suddenly collapsed in Ramajogipeta near the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam.  The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF,) Police and Fire service personnel teams rushed to the spot to rescue those trapped under the debris. 

As of now, the rescue team saved five persons, who suffered severe injuries in the incident, and recovered three bodies, including one of a child.  The deceased were identified as Saketi Anjali (10,) Saketi Durgaprasad (16) and Chothur (35.)   Anjali and Durgaprasad were siblings and prior to the collapse, Anjali celebrated her birthday, on the 22nd of March.

While the injured are undergoing treatment at King George hospital, then search operation for others trapped under the debris is underway.   The five injured were identified as Rama Rao and Kalyani, the parents of Anjali and Durgaprasad, Siva Sankar, Krishna, and Roja Rani.  All eight were residents of the  building which collapsed in the wee hours of Thursday.

Furthermore, updating about the situation and incident Ch. Srikanth, the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Visakhapatnam said, “An incident of house collapse was reported last midnight.  Police rescued 6 people while 3 succumbed, which includes 2 kids.  Prima-facie evidence shows that the neighbour had dug up the adjacent land for foundation, due to which this house’s foundation got weak.  Even yesterday, he was getting a borewell dug in the adjacent land.  A case has been registered & probe underway.”

In addition, the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Mr. P. Rajababu visited the spot and said it was a 40 year old building.   ADdressing the media, Mr. Rajababu said, “In our primary findings, we believe that the building seems to have no strength to hold three floors of weight, as it was constructed without pillars.  Moreover, it has been raining continuously for the past few days and this could have caused the collapse.”

A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.  Furthermore, the rescue operation is also in action.
