Andhra Pradesh is likely to see heavy rainfall over the next few days as a low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning for parts of the state.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on September 19. Coastal Andhra could also receive heavy rain on September 20. The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several areas.
The developing system over the North Andaman Sea is expected to form into a low-pressure area around September 19. According to the IMD, it could move west-northwest towards the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast over the next three to four days.
Weather reports suggest that Coastal Andhra may receive heavy rain between September 19 and 21, followed by moderate rainfall in some areas.
However, officials have not confirmed any cyclone at this stage. The IMD said it is still too early to determine how strong the system will become.
