On the 27th of February, Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh Government launched a polio vaccination program for children under the age of five, across the State.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, launched the campaign, which would continue till the 2nd of March, Wednesday.  According to sources, the four days program would begin from 7:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M., for the next four days.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government would vaccinate 52,93,832 children across the State and has set up 37,969 centers for this.  In addition, a total of 1,51,876 medical staff is being participate to vaccinate all the eligible children under the vaccination drive.

Furthermore, as many as 75,938 teams have been set up to conduct polio drops back home from Monday, the 28th of February.  Of the total teams,  1,374 mobile teams were deployed for high-risk areas.  The medical and health department has already supplied 66,95,000 doses to 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the program is jointly organised by the Medical, Women and Child Welfare, Municipal, Panchayati Raj, Tribal Welfare, Transport, and Education Departments.

The last case of polio in the State was reported on the 16th of July, 2008 in Samaralakota of East Godavari district. After 2008, not a single polio case has been reported in the Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh.
