Andhra Pradesh Polls Witness Strong Security Measures

Local body elections play an important role in shaping development and administration across Andhra Pradesh. The ongoing MPTC and ZPTC elections have drawn large numbers of voters, with polling taking place across several districts.

Voting began at 7 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, at 31,460 polling centres across the state. More than 2.61 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes for 582 ZPTC and 7,767 MPTC seats.

A total of 21,012 candidates are contesting the elections. The State Election Commission (SEC) deployed 2,01,116 polling officers and staff to manage the process.

Security has been strengthened in sensitive areas, including Palnadu, Annamayya, YSR Kadapa and Tirupati. The SEC identified 8,904 sensitive and 7,160 highly sensitive polling stations. CCTV cameras and webcasting facilities have also been arranged.

However, heavy rain led to the postponement of polling in five mandals in Eluru and East Godavari districts, along with two polling centres in another mandal. Voting in these areas will take place on Friday. Vote counting is scheduled for November 7.
