Tynala Vijayakumar, a former Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA,) on the 6th of April, joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Though Mr. Vijayakumar did not reveal the reason behind his resignation, it is speculated, the YSRCP denied him a ticket to contest from the Visakhapatnam North constituency, following which, he resigned from the Party.
The current TDP member nominated for the Visakhapatnam North constituency is Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the Human Resource and Development Minister.
In 2009, Vijayakumar represented the Indian National Congress (INC) from the Visakhapatnam North constituency and won the seat. Later, he joined the YSRCP and helped the Party grow, with his devotion and loyalty.
The YSRCP could face a major setback due to the resignation of Vijayakumar, whereas the TDP could be benefitted from the action.
Speaking about the resignation of Vijayakumar, a senior leader said, “It is a big surprise to the Party. Since its inception, Vijayakumar worked at the Party very sincerely and honestly. But, we do not know on what grounds he left the party. However, the cadre is not disturbed and still intact with the party (sic.)”
Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 seats and 25 seats in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections respectively.
The Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are scheduled on the 11th of April.
The major parties contesting in Andhra Pradesh are the TDP, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party(YSRCP) and the JanaSena Party.
The results of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
