Farooq Abdullah, the President of the National Conference Party, on the 26th of March, alleged Jagan Mohan Reddy, the President of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) of trying to bribe the Indian National Congress (INC.)
Mr. Abdullah, who came to Andhra Pradesh on the 25th of March, said, “Jagan once came to my house when Andhra was united. I want to remind him that he told me he was ready to give Rs. 1,500 crore if the Indian National Congress (Congress) made him the Chief Minister (sic.)”
During a public meeting in Kadapa, Mr. Farooq said, “Where did the money come from? Does he have a treasure hidden inside the earth” He further added, “The money must have been looted.”
Farooq’s statement regarding Jagan’s bribery can be said to be a campaign strategy of the opposition Party, the Telugu Desam party (TDP), ahead of the State elections.
Mr. Abdullah reached Andhra Pradesh to support N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)
Apart from Farooq Abdullah, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and Sharad Pawar also extended their support to the TDP for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State.
Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th of April and the major parties contesting are the YSRCP, the TDP and the JanaSena Party.
The results of the elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
