Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 18th of July, slammed N. Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) during the AP Assembly Budget session.

Y.S. Jagan said, the Naidu Government, during their rule, made excess payments of Rs. 2,636 crores to the producers of solar and wind power, due to which, AP is now facing losses.

On the other hand, Naidu denied the claims and said, due to his Government’s efforts, the tariffs on solar and wind power came down.

The comments of Jagan Mohan came after Naidu denied the allegations of there being irregularities in the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) approved by the Naidu led TDP. These allegations were made by Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, the Chief Whip of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government.

Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, on the 17th of July, addressed the media and said, Naidu took commission from the power companies for the PPAs during his tenure as the CM of AP.

Srikanth Reddy said, “Naidu had taken commissions from the power companies for PPAs and this is why he is speaking in support of them.”

Chandrababu Naidu said, “We had acted in accordance with the central government guidelines. There were no irregularities but Jagan’s government misinterpreted the facts to blame TDP.”

Responding to Naidu’s question about Jagan selling power at higher prices in Karnataka, Srikanth Reddy said, “Jagan has plants in Karnataka since very long. If the Karnataka government decides to review the selling prices, he will have no objections. As the plants are in Karnataka, it is not possible or feasible to sell power to Andhra.”

The AP Budget session started from the 11th of July and will continue till the 30th of July.

Stay tuned for further updates.
