Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is scheduled to meet with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The meeting is scheduled at 9:00 P.M., on the 15th of December, in New Delhi.

The sudden Delhi visit of Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy is to discuss the ongoing Polavaram Project and pending funds for the same.

The Polavaram Project is one of the biggest projects of Andhra Pradesh under the State Government and the Central Government.

The multipurpose irrigation project started under the leadership of the former State Government, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)

However, after winning the 2019 Assembly elections, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) resumed the construction work with a new construction company through the tender system.

Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL,) is the company selected for constructing the Polavaram Irrigation Project.

The Delhi visit of the Andhra Pradesh CM came a day after he inspected the progress at the Polavaram construction site.  On the 14th of December, Mr. Jagan visited the Polavaram Project site, conducted an aerial survey and held a meeting regarding the work.

In New Delhi, Mr. Jagan would also meet the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shakhawat.

CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would brief the Central Government about the construction and demand release of the pending funds for the Polavaram Project.

Recently, the Central Government capped the expenditure for one of the biggest irrigation projects to Rs. 20,400 crores as per the 2013-14 price level, when the project started.  The previous amount by the Central Government was Rs. 28,192 crores.

In addition, In 2019 November, the Union Finance Minister Nirmalata Sitharaman released Rs. 1,850 crores for the project.

Apart from discussing the Polavaram Project, Mr. Reddy would also highlight other issues in the State like the Disha Act, the three capitals issue and the recent damage by Nivar Cyclone.

Of Mr. Reddy’s other engagements, including meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are yet to be confirmed.
