Amaravati villagers gathered on roads and protested against the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government for proposing the State have 3 capitals.

On the 20th of December, more than a thousand villagers intensified their protests and came on to the roads.  The protests grew stronger after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., met the G.N. Rao Committee.

On the evening of the 20th of December, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy met the G.N. Rao led G.N. Rao Committee, the expert committee constituted to review the existing development plans and suggest a strategy for the growth and development of Andhra Pradesh and its capitals.

The Committee, after its review, submitted a report and suggested three State capitals and strategies for the development of the three capitals.

After the review meeting, villagers in Mandadam and other villages in Amaravati tried to enter the Secretariat by crossing barricades, blocking roads and setting vehicles on fire, amongst other things.

However, the Amaravati Police controlled the situation and imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC,) restricting any kind of public gathering in the area.

The farmers are disappointed with the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) for the proposal of assigning three capitals as their wish is Amaravati be made the State Capital.

Farmers even gave their lands to the former Government of A.P., the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) for the development of Amaravati as the State capital.

However, an official announcement about the State having 3 capitals is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
