The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) led Andhra Pradesh Government announced a ban on public meetings on roads, across the Telugu State.

On the 2nd of January, Monday, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, directed the State Ministry of Home Affairs to issue an order in this regard.  As per the directions, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order asking the organisers of public meetings to select an alternate for the venue of such public meetings, as it would be banned on state, municipal and panchayat roads.

The decision was taken after two tragic stampede incidents occurred during public meetings organised by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)  In one such meeting at the Kandukur region of Nellore, eight TDP workers lost their lives and as many as 20 people were injured.  Another incident happened in Guntur, where three women died and 18 others present to attend the meeting and take freebies by the TDP Party were injured.

Considering the incidents and expressing concern about the people’s safety, the YSRCP Government banned public meetings, rallies and road shows on roads, with immediate effect.
