AP HC Dismiss SEC’s Orders Of Renominations In 14 Municipal Wards

The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) on the 3rd of March, announced its verdict on filing renominations. The HC quashed the orders issued by the State Election Commissioner (SEC) N. Ramesh Kumar, allowing renominations in the municipal elections. 

However, during the Court hearing, the Andhra Pradesh HC bench said, there was no possibility of filing new nominations. The High Court also quashed orders to seize the volunteers’ tabs and cell phones during the elections.

Recently, the SEC allowed renominations for 14 municipal wards in Tirupati, Punganur, Rayachoti, and Erraguntla.

Opposing the issued renominations, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government challenged the same and moved the High Court.

The SEC issued orders allowing renominations in 6 wards of Tirupati, 3 of Punganur of Chittoor, 2 in Rayachoti of Kadapa district, 3 in Erraguntla were given the opportunity to renominate.

On the other hand, Mr. Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has issued fresh directions to the collectors on the withdrawal of nominations in municipal elections. He said that nominations should not be withdrawn without a candidate. He also ordered to videotape the entire withdrawal process.

The Andhra Pradesh Municipal elections for 12 corporations and 75 municipalities would be held on the 10th of March. The major parties contesting the elections are, the YSRCP, the TDP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the JanaSena Party.

The results of the Municipal elections would be announced on the 14th of March.
