AP HC Reviews Petition Filed Against YSRCP Government

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) High Court (HC,) on the 13th of April reviewed the petition filed against the decision of the A.P. Government for removing N. Ramesh Kumar.

On the 10th of April, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government removed Ramesh Kumar from his post of State Election Commissioner (SEC.) 

On the 11th of April, the State Government Appointed V. Kanagaraj as the new SEC of Andhra Pradesh.  The appointment of V. Kanagaraj,  a former judge of the Madras High Court was approved by Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, the Governor of A.P.

On the 10th of April, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan approved the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj, 1994, (Second Amendment) Ordinance passed by the State Government.  The ordinance passed includes amendments in change of the tenure, eligibility, and method of appointment of the SEC.

In regard to this, leaders of the JanaSena Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) filed six petitions in the AP High Court.  

During today’s hearing the HC reviewed the matter via video conference and ordered the YSRCP Government to file a counter response on the issue by the 16th of April.

The next hearing regarding the case is scheduled on the 20th of April.
