Y. Sujana Chowdary, a Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) conducted a press conference at Amaravati, one of the proposed capitals of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

On the 29th of December, Mr. Chowdary addressed the farmers of Amaravati who were protesting against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) led State Government for proposing 3 State capitals.

During the conference, he assured the intervention of the Central Government, saying the Government knows how to do justice and would soon intervene in the ongoing capital issue.

Mr. Chowdary even gave a powerpoint presentation during the press conference.  He said if the State Government decides to shift the State capital from Amaravati, the YSRCP would have to pay a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh crores to farmers, contractors and others who would be affected by the move.

Speaking about the investment of the Government of India (GoI) in the construction and development of Amaravati as the State capital, Y. Sujana Chowdary said the GoI spent approximately Rs. 10,000 crores.  Several construction works with the invested amount were completed, while many were stopped abruptly.

Concluding the press conference, Sujana Chowdary said the State Government would also have to face legal problems if they go ahead with the three capital proposal.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., decided to have 3 State capitals.  While the executive capital is expected to be Visakhapatnam, the legislative and judiciary capitals are likely to be Amaravati and Kurnool, respectively.

However, a final call regarding the proposal is yet to be made.  The final decision is expected to be made after a discussion with a high power committee.

Stay tuned for further updates.
