A special Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) Court, on the 3rd of January, rejected Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s plea of exempting him from appearing in Court in relation to a disproportionate assets case.

The Court directed Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) to appear personally in the Court on the 10th of January, when the next hearing takes place.  Since Jagan Mohan Reddy holds the position as the State’s Chief Minister, he requested the Special Court to exempt him from appearing every Friday.

However, the CBI Court’s judge refused the request, stating Jagan Mohan Reddy already availed 10 exemptions.

The CBI Court said since Jagan Mohan Reddy holds a powerful position, he may influence and manipulate the witnesses in the case if granted exemption from personal appearance.

The CBI Court said, “In all the 11 chargesheets, the petitioner stands accused in his individual capacity and as a representative of his privately owned companies, and therefore, should attend the court as such.”  Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested in 2012 and was in jail for 16 months in connection with the case.

The next hearing regarding the disproportionate assets case against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled on the 11th of January.
