On the 1st of November, the Special Court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Hyderabad dismissed the exemption petition filed by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has a case of owning disproportionate assets against him.  Mr. Reddy, who is currently on trial for a property case as well, requested the Court to exempt him from personal appearance due to his position as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, which the Court rejected.

The CBI Court further ordered Jagan Mohan Reddy to appear in the Court every Friday.

However, the Court dismissed his appeal and asked him to attend the CBI Court trials every Friday from today, the 1st of November, onwards.

The CBI Court said since Jagan Mohan Reddy holds a powerful position, he may influence and manipulate the witnesses in the case if granted exemption from personal appearance.

However, the advocate representing Jagan Mohan Reddy argued and asked the CBI officials to present evidence against Jagan Mohan Reddy.  The advocate also said the evidence of the CBI is based on imagination and is not valid.

Though the CBI Court rejected Reddy’s petition to be exempted from personal appearance, Jagan Mohan Reddy has an option to file a petition under Section 317 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC.)  Under the Section, he may appeal to be exempted from a particular day’s hearing.

However, the petition would not help Jagan Mohan Reddy get exempted from every hearing.

Stay tuned for further updates.
