The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer Mr. Rajiv Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI.)
The new CEC would take over the office charges from the 15th of May, Sunday. He would take up the post after incumbent Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sushil Chandra demits his office on the 14th of May 2022.
He has been an Election Commissioner of the ECI since the 1st of September 2020 and would complete his tenure on the 14th of May 2022. Notably, the President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind approved the appointment. The approval was made under pursuance of clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution.
The Union Law Ministry issued an official notification regarding the appointment of Mr. Rajiv Kumar and put the notification in the public domain. Furthermore, Mr. Kiren Rijiju, the Law Minister of India, extended his best wishes to Mr. Rajiv Kumar.
