Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has condemned the reported police cane charge on village and ward secretariat employees during their protest in Vijayawada.
Jagan, in a post on X, urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to order a judicial inquiry into the incident. He also sought an apology to the employees and the withdrawal of their suspensions.
The employees had gathered to raise several service-related demands. Reports said the protest focused on issues including promotions, increments and other employee benefits. A report also said some employees were detained during the protest.
Jagan alleged that the government was weakening the village and ward secretariat system introduced during the previous YSRCP government. He also claimed that rationalisation could put around 30,000 permanent jobs at risk.
He further raised concerns over pending DA instalments, Interim Relief and Pay Revision Commission benefits. These figures and allegations were part of Jagan’s statement and have not been independently established in the reports reviewed.
