In the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, the police busted the ATM money theft case and arrested one person.
On the 19th of September, Kadapa Superintendent of Police (SP) Mr. Anburajan briefed about the incident, hours after he arrested the accused identified as Chennoor Mahabubbasha (36,) a resident of Pulluru village in Khajipet Mandal. The other accused in the ATM robbery is said to be Sheikh Umar Farooq, a resident of Sattar Colony in Kadapa.
Farooq, who was previously working as a driver for a CMS company van that loaded cash into SBI ATMs, hatched the plan with his friend Chennoor. Farooq and Chennoor Mahabubbasha decided to steal cash. On the 16th of September, Farooq went as an acting driver with a van full of cash.
As per the plan, Farooq hired a car ahead of schedule and parked it near Vinayaknagar. While the employees of CMS company were loading cash at the ATM in Lohianagar, Farooq said that he would reverse the van and fled with the remaining Rs. 56 lakhs in it.
He changed the box of money into a car kept ready near Vinayaknagar and fled from there. Mahbubbasha, who was waiting near, broke the cash box and filled the cash in the car, and told Farooq to go to Bangalore.
Sunil Kumar, who is the custodian of the ATM in the CMS office, filed a complaint at the Taluka Police Station. After an intense search, within 48 hours, police found Mahabubbasha in a shed near Vinayaknagar with the help of the van’s GPS.
Chennoor Mahbubbasha has been arrested, whereas the search for Farooq is underway.
