Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the President of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Chief Minister of Telangana, skipped the meeting called by Ms. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief  Minister of West Bengal.

Notably, Ms. Mamata Banerjee called for an opposition meeting, scheduled on the 15th of June, Wednesday, at the National Capital.  Leaders of the left wing parties, like the TRS, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Janata Dal United, the National Congress Party and others were invited.   The called meeting was orgnaised in the view of the upcoming Presidential elections and to discuss the nomination for the president’s post.

However, the AAP and the TRS decided to skip the meeting, refusing to be part of the discussion for the presidential nomination of the opposition.

Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “There is no question of sharing any platform with the Congress.”  The TRS statement further read,  “Rahul Gandhi, in a recent public meeting in Telangana had targeted the TRS government without any word of criticism against the BJP.”  The TRS said, the Indian National Congress is  ganging up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, especially in recent polls and are targeting the ruling TRS Government.

The KCR led TRS Party said, “Even otherwise,  TRS is not in agreement with this method of trying to put up an opposition presidential candidate.  In this case, the candidate was already chosen, and the candidate’s opinion was taken, after which the meeting was called.  Why was it done this way?  The right procedure would have been to hold meetings, arrive at a consensus, take the candidate’s approval, and then announce the name after a meeting.”

Besides the TRS and the AAP, the Andhra Pradesh’s Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) gas also stayed away from the meeting by Ms. Mamata Banerjee.

On the other hand, the Presidential election for the next President of India is scheduled to be held on the 18th of July, and the results would be announced on the 21st of July.
