On Sunday, in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh five farmers died after being struck by lightning. Three more were injured in the lightning in Kalugudu village in Gummagattu mandal.

The deceased have been identified as N. Karim (25,) Jangam Jayanna (60,) B. Shivappa, Giri Reddy (40,) and K. Obanna (35.)

It has been reported that as soon as the word of the incident came CI T. Chalapathi Rao of Rayadurgam and RDO Kalyandurg hurried to the spot and took the bodies to Rayadurgam’s Government hospital for a post mortem.

Kalva Srinivasulu, cabinet minister rushed to the village after news of the incident. He announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh and instructed officials to provide help to the victim’s families. Srinivasulu also has reported that the best treatment will be given to the injured.

The State Disaster Management Authority had informed that while some places in Andhra are facing severe heat, other parts are subjected to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted windy and light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Srikakulam, Vishakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East and West Godavari districts.

Parts of Rayalaseema made up of four districts, Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittoor, and Anantapur have been facing a hot Summer. But IMD has predicted that these regions will also see rain soon.
