Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 31st of March, launched his campaign in Andhra Pradesh, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi assured the citizens of Andhra Pradesh, the INC will grant the Special Category Status (SCS) to the State, which the State is demanding since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into the State of Telangana and the State of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

The N. Chandrababu Naidu led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is demanding the SCS as a part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Recently, Naidu went on a half day strike to protest against the Central Government for not fulfilling the SCS demand.

Mr. Gandhi addressed the people of Andhra Pradesh and said, he will fight Modi and pressure the ruling government to grant the SCS, if he comes to power in Andhra Pradesh.

Gandhi also criticised the decisions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as demonetisation, the launch of some poverty related schemes, etc. He said, the Modi led BJP is destroying the progressive work of the INC ever since it came to power in 2014.

The INC was the ruling Government of India until 2014, after winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Narendra Modi led BJP came to power and formed the Government of India.

It will be the first time Andhra Pradesh contests the Lok Sabha elections, after the bifurcation of the State.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 25 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the JanaSena Party, the TDP, the INC and the BJP.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May 2019.
