Amaravati: Alarming instances of misuse of temple funds by executive officers (EOs) entrusted with safeguarding temple assets have surfaced in Andhra Pradesh. Reports reveal that some EOs are withdrawing fixed deposits from banks and diverting them for personal purposes, sparking outrage.
The latest case involves the EO of the Nandikotkur Group of Temples in Nandyala district. Sources indicate that the EO utilized over ₹1 crore of fixed deposits from temple funds to clear personal debts. This officer, who had previously been suspended multiple times, continues to face criticism for evading proper scrutiny by the Endowments Department.
In another shocking revelation, the EO of Kanala Group Temples reportedly misappropriated ₹1.20 crore of fixed deposits for gambling and cricket betting. Further investigation uncovered the misuse of an additional ₹60 lakh, including funds collected from temple leases over three years. Despite the registration of two cases against him in Nandyala and Kurnool, the EO remains at large, allegedly leveraging his influence to avoid arrest.
These incidents have intensified demands for stricter oversight and accountability within the Endowments Department to prevent further misuse of temple funds.
