Andhra Pradesh is bringing changes to school textbooks to promote gender equality and reduce stereotypes among children, Education Minister Nara Lokesh said.
Speaking at a Public Affairs Forum of India event in Delhi, Lokesh said the state’s education reforms focus on value-based learning, gender sensitivity, technology and job-linked skills.
He said the government wants children to learn about equality from an early age. The new textbooks will avoid showing traditional gender roles as fixed patterns.
The reforms will begin from the first grade, with changes in the way textbooks present everyday roles and activities.
Lokesh also spoke about wider changes in school and higher education. These include curriculum updates, technology-based learning and stronger links between education and industry.
The state government is also working on skill development so students can gain knowledge that connects with future employment.
The minister said the education reforms aim to prepare students not only for exams but also for a changing society and workplace.
