Mr. Sharad Pawar, the President of the National Congress Party (NCP) said he is determined to quit as the President and announced his resignation.

On the 5th of May, the NCP is scheduled to hold a party meeting to decide the future course of action and the new President of the NCP.  The sudden decision of Mr. Sharad Pawar has shook the politics of Maharashtra, especially at a time when the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray V/S Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde is still underway.

Now that Mr. Sharad Pawar is determined to quit as the NCP President, the party would hold a meeting and choose the next successor to hold the responsible position.  For the committee, the big challenge is keeping Mr. Pawar’s nephew Mr. Ajit Pawar within the fold.  There has been no indication that a special role is being crafted for the 63-year-old within the party.  In addition, Priyanka Sule, the daughter of Mr. Sharad Pawar is also in the line to be selected as the NCP President, after her father’s resignation.

However, it is not only the NCP committee, but allies parties like the Indian National Congress and the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray to pitch its leader as the Chief Ministerial face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the next assembly election.

Sources said the party (NCP) is the largest one in the alliance and Ajit Pawar is the Leader of the Opposition, which would hold a significant importance, giving the NCP priority to hold the decision regarding the NCP President.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on the 5th of May, Friday, at the NCP office, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
