Vijayawada: AP Congress president YS Sharmila started attracting Christian voters as soon as she took charge. Sharmila targeted her brother and AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for not responding to the issues faced by Christians.
Addressing the gathering at her swearing in ceremony at Aahwanam Convention center in the city on Sunday Sharmila spoke about the Manipur violence and attack on Christians. “YSRCP has become opportunist. Around 2000 churches were demolished and 60000 Christians lost their livelihood in Manipur. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, being Christian never responded to this incident. It shows his fear of BJP,” Sharmila alleged.
She added that YSRCP ignored the interest of the public for the sake of political gains. She stated that all political parties in AP except Congress were afraid of BJP and supported it in one or the other form.
Sharmila said that she will be secular and fight for the rights of the downtrodden. Sharmila’s comments gave clear indication that she is trying to attract Christian voters who are considered a strong vote bank for YSRCP. Sharmila’s husband Anil Kumar is an evangelist and has good connections with Christian organizations across the state.
